I just happened to be in Staunton, Virginia today and was driving up Route 250. When I turned on the radio in my pickup truck and pressed the scan stations button it stopped on your station. I was shocked and so surprised at hearing oldies music on the radio again. I have only been living in the Shenandoah Valley specifically Waynesboro since 2010. I moved here from Wytheville, Virginia. Where they have a oldies radio station Kool Gold Oldies 95.3 FM WXBX. That is also considered to be a low power station. Operating from a 300 foot Tower near I-81 Southbound Exit 60,Rural Retreat, Virginia. With an effective radiated power of 6,000 watts. This station is very popular among it’s listeners and advertisers in Wythe, Smyth, Bland, Grayson, Carroll Counties in Virginia. Listening to WREN today made me feel almost like. I was back home in Wytheville, Virginia. Listening to great Oldies music on the radio once again. Keep up the great work of bringing the very best Oldies music on the radio dial. To Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. Hopefully the F.C.C. will grant approval on all your planned signal improvements soon. Your signal today and sound quality was crisp, clean, and crystal clear. With no frequent static or interference blocking your signal. That is often experienced from other radio stations broadcasting here in this area.

      Jerry,

I think that i did reply to your nice post earlier but it seems to still be unapproved at our website. We operate at only 100 Watts (ERP). We do have a good location and happily the I-64/250 West corridor is good for us! A minor increase in power and translators are, perhaps, in the future but being small and non-commercial doesn’t put you in the front of the line at the FCC (on the other hand, we do have a license, so thanks FCC as well!) We also have a second station in Ruckersville, VA. that does repeat WREN. That facility will be upgraded significantl;y later this year.

      Thanks and Best Wishes,

      Jon Hall

My girlfriend found your station while we were going through Charlottesville last Friday. We were staying nearby and listened all weekend. It’s Monday evening, I’m still at work, and I’m listening online right now. We love it. We really like the variety and low rotation. Good job and thank you!

      Jeff,

Thanks for the compliment! We have a huge playlist! I run into problems with some programmers who think that a 400-1,400 playlist is better. We have about 3,500 songs! They aren’t all equally weighted but they all do play.

      Best Wishes,

Just found the WREN. Really enjoy listening. Great mix; not the same songs over and over. Thank you

Good programming…great sound except for the random “honk” from signal interruption?

      Mike,

You are right, in general, at least about signal interruption. It is related to our studio to transmitter link (STL). We use a license free 5.8 GHz audio link for the one mile hop between our studio and the transmitter site on Rio Rd. Unfortunately, license free also means no frequency coordination. We do have it mostly fixed at present as of Saturday morning (7/22).

      Best Wishes,

      Jon Hall
