Singer and actress is 97 years old today (April 3rd)! She is still healthy and very active. She runs the ‘Doris Day Animal Foundation’ currently. This is a very worthy animal rights organization.
Her first hit was ‘Love Somebody’ in 1948 which made it to #1. Her last hit was ‘Everybody Loves Somebody’ in 1958 which ranked #6 on the charts. She was in many important movies in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. She recorded 650 songs and had a TV variety show from 1968 to 1973. In 2011 her album with all new music went to #10 in the UK!
Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association’s Career Achievement Award.
